Seven ways to get dry and cracked heels. A must have for the summer

Beautiful and smooth feet are a real challenge. Unfortunately, we usually remember the care when we plan to put on sandals. Once we get our feet in order, summer activities can make it hard for them again. Cracking or dry heels are one of the biggest summer problems. We advise how to effectively solve the problem and eliminate discomfort.

Contrary to what it seems, neglected feet are not just an aesthetic problem. When dry skin problems worsen, they can be not only an aesthetic challenge but also a serious health problem. When a heel breaks, it takes quite a long time to heal, and the condition itself is very painful and can make it very difficult to function. It is better not to ignore the first signs of dry skin and nip the problem in the bud.

Why are heels so tricky? The answer is simple. The epidermis in this area is much thicker than in other parts of the body and grows rapidly. For this reason, the skin cannot keep up with its natural exfoliation and we must help it. Leather must be sturdy because it must protect our feet during long hours of walking, unfortunately nature has not planned the wearing of shoes, no natural exfoliation and has prepared natural soles for our feet.

If we neglect foot care, sooner or later we will feel painful consequences. Too dry and thick skin will eventually crack, and then we will soon regret laziness. First, the wounds on a cracked heel are deep and very painful, making it impossible to walk. Second, bacteria and viruses can penetrate it, causing more serious health problems.

Due to the constant use of the feet and the difficult conditions in which the skin functions in this area, fissures heal hard and slowly. They should in no way be neglected.

The main cause of cracked heels is dryness that occurs for various reasons (insufficient or lack of care, malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies, dehydration). The problem can also occur as a result of diabetes, obesity, wearing poorly selected shoes or genetic predisposition.

Regular and consistent care is required to quickly relieve your feet and heal any cracks. You can use home remedies, but don’t forget to put a strong moisturizing cream with urea on your feet. However, remember that once your heels are cracked, the cream itself is not enough.

All cracked heel treatments are also suitable as prophylaxis to avoid the worst case – they will perfectly soften the skin and improve hydration.

1. Water with salt (or vinegar)

This is one of the simplest and most popular foot baths. It is effective and allows you to soak hard, dry skin. It is best to add medical salt, for example Bochnia salt, to the water before soaking the feet. You can easily buy it at the pharmacy. Unfortunately, if the heels are already cracked and there are wounds on them, then such a bath will not work and will even be painful.

For example, for cracked and injured heels, add Dead Sea extract to the soak.

The second product that you definitely have in your house is vinegar, it can do real wonders. Add vinegar to the water instead of salt.

2. Flaxseed

This is an extremely easy way to get rid of dead and dry epidermis. Make a decoction of linseed – pour boiling water over the linseed and let it cool. If the mixture is lukewarm, dilute it with water and soak your feet as you would in any other bath. Then do not rinse the feet and remove the dead skin with a grater or pumice stone.

3. Milk bath and soda bath

Another natural foot bath that will help you quickly soothe troublesome feet. This method is well known to our grandmothers. First soak your feet well in warm milk (about 15-20 minutes), then rub them with baking soda. Leave the grated baking soda on the skin for another 5 minutes. After the treatment, the feet are rinsed with water and rubbed. Baking soda works like a peel.

4. Herbal bath

A bath in an herbal tea can also work at home. The traditional infusion consists of linseed, fenugreek and chamomile. Prepare an infusion of two tablespoons of each herb, then dilute it with water and soak your feet in a warm bath for about 15 minutes.

The infusion can also be enriched with calendula or yarrow.

5. Regular Exfoliation

There are many methods for removing dead skin from your heels. However, it’s best to avoid scraping razor blades that were once popular – you can easily damage the skin and cut too thick a layer. In home conditions, rasps, pumice and abrasive scrapers (with sandpaper or natural ore) and chemical peels (acidic exfoliation) are perfect. After rubbing the hard skin, it’s a good idea to exfoliate regularly to care for the delicate skin of the toes and top of the foot.

Exfoliating socks have a longer duration of action, so it is better to use them in winter as part of the standard care. If you decide to use them, you better be prepared not to show your feet for a while due to the exfoliating effect visible to the naked eye.

6. Regular Hydration

Regular hydration with exfoliation is the foundation of foot care. It is best to use foot creams that contain urea and glycerin. These substances perfectly soften the skin and improve its hydration. Use the cream at least once a day. To enhance the effect, you can wear cotton pedicure socks after application. A good foot cream contains 10-15 percent. urea, no less.

7. Treatment with Vitamin A

Ordinary vitamin A capsules will do the work for you. Just massage it into your feet after the keratinized skin is removed. For a penny you can also buy an ointment with vitamin A. Once the vitamin has been absorbed into the skin, apply a highly moisturizing foot cream. It is best to put on cotton socks after applying the cream.

Give your feet a break, don’t put too much weight on them. If the problem is severe and home methods fail, it is best to go to a podiatrist who takes good care of our heels, which will greatly facilitate and speed up the healing of the skin.
