Journey through MyTeam F1 22

In recent years I have become more and more interested in motorsport and sim racing, especially in the world of Formula racing. That interest rose significantly last year when there was a compelling title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, and also when Codemasters served the nothing short of brilliant 2021 F1. This is where I really started researching sim racing and understanding the intricacies of driving Formula 1 cars. way they should be routed, be it the temperature and pressure of the tires, the differential and pressure settings and of course the correct configuration before they come in

But learning everything came at the cost of learning to drive with no racing lines and no assists disabled, something I’ve been focusing on for the past few weeks in F1 22, this year’s installment of this year’s series. It wasn’t easy at all and some tracks and cars are harder to customize than others, but the reason for my desire to push myself is because I tried to properly simulate the MyTeam season and see how good a director and driver I really am. may be in play. This series of articles is somewhat of a chronicle of my experience, which will no doubt be full of disasters and failures, but hopefully also the occasional success.

Getting started, of course, means building a team and designing a car, and facing all the other styling systems that are essential before heading to the first Grand Prix of the season. For me, this meant creating a car with black, white, and yellow accents, for the simple reason that I always associated myself with this color scheme in other video games, taking inspiration from the days when I used the wasp decal in Halo: Reach and matching. my armor color palette to reflect the same insect that always puts me on the brink when someone sneaks in through my window. I like to think that this is a similar situation and effect to what the bats did for Bruce Wayne.

So in this case, the color scheme was decided, which hit some sponsors who felt good about giving the car a really professional look. Then came the design of the decal (which unfortunately couldn’t be a wasp in F1 22) before creating a driver who sticks to the cockpit and leads the team to the promised land as soon as the start lights go out. In fact, the decal, driver and sponsors have never felt more important compared to the actual car design process and nomenclature of the team I ended up with: MBF Racing, named after my lead driver and team owner, respectively, Beanie McBeanFace (hence the initials MBF).

This was followed by the selection of the main sponsor, a sponsor with a reasonable and credible goal who could guarantee a maximum payout at the end of the season. And of course make sure that the car is equipped with an engine from one of the four available options. I ended up opting for a Mercedes engine because hopefully reliability will be a huge help as the season progresses. The choice for a reserve driver eventually fell through and because I had access to the Icons package I finally settled down with fellow countryman Jenson Button – because the former world champion has a nice balance between statistics and also has a reasonable salary – the perfect person to support you on the day of the race.

With this all closed, there was an early season interview with Will Buxton where the F1 journalist asked me some unique questions which I answered using pointless PR jargon before being sent to the menu to do some early development requests. place and choose an additional sponsor. a little extra money to fund and support my team. However, at the start of the season this all seems pointless as there is no real way of knowing how the team and the car will fare until they land in Bahrain for the first race of the season.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for me to get responses when Bahrain knocked on my door. By bringing the car (unofficially called MBF 01) on the track for Practice 1, it was clear that the Mercedes engine and a new era of car design created a vehicle of great advantage, even if it was much slower than the teams and cars. first. Practice 1 and the track acclimation program went smoothly, as did practice 2 and the tire management program, but practice 3 was really important as I planned to undergo the qualifying pace program, a test that would give a good idea of ​​where I would be on the grid in a real race. could stand. I ended up having to do this show a few times as the spin dropped the first result but the second attempt was much better and showed the car could be 11th on the start and higher if I could put together a better lap. Needless to say I was pretty confident in qualifying but that confidence ended in my fall as I went deep into Turn 10 and lost over half a second and ended up finishing 21st in line, as all has been said and done. Still, the car has potential and 21st place was not where I intended to be when the checkered flag waved.

Race day arrived and here it was clear that the peloton (apart from Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari) was closer than I expected as it only took a few corners before I realized that close to perfection would be needed to get the result. get what I wanted. But since it was a new car, it soon became apparent that mistakes would happen somehow, as I found that I still really need to understand the limits of what I can go through with this vehicle. Occasional lockouts and cornering oversteer made it increasingly difficult for the mid-team drivers to break through, and as the race progressed it became apparent that while the MBF 01 was better than the Williams FW44 and Aston Martin AMR22, the Haas VF-22 , AlphaTauri The AT03 and the Alfa Romeo C42 were probably my biggest rivals that I could now face. The McLaren MCL36 (especially Lando) and Alpine A522 were challenges to be overcome the next day.

Still, I kept my head down, pressed in lap after lap and tried my best to get the best result at the end of the race, finishing in 13th place. It’s not a score yet, but after a failed qualifying session and first time in the cockpit, this is certainly a result MBF Racing can use and improve on as we head to Jeddah for Round 2 of the 2022 season.
