Vacations have begun. Many people stay in the city. It turns out that summer in the city doesn’t have to be boring. Sports facilities and activities organized in cultural and educational institutions in Katowice await the youngest inhabitants of Katowice. All in the context of the ‘Summer in the city’ campaign.
The holiday atmosphere has already taken over Katowice. Outside the window, the heat flows out.
– Summer in the city can be as exciting as an interesting trip. Canoes, bicycles, roller skates, a forest walk and a number of events – it’s all possible in Katowice and shows that summer in the city can be full of entertainment and attractions for every resident. Almost half of the area of Katowice is green, which offers the possibility of active recreation for all residents, regardless of their age – from toddlers to seniors. The Forest Park in Katowice with a roller coaster, the Three Ponds Valley with kayaking opportunities, and countless parks and squares where you can stroll in silence or rest on a bench – these are just a few examples of the city’s rich offer – announces Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice.
Vacation time can’t just be used for rest. A trip to the forests of Katowice can become a real nature lesson. The proximity to the city does not hinder the animals that live here. Walking along forest trails you often meet red deer, roe deer and wild boars. With a bit of luck you can also spot a fox, raccoon dog and even a badger. Many protected bird species nest here, such as the black stork, crane, owls, bagpipes and buzzard. When visiting the forest, remember not to light a fire, as that will cause the greatest havoc. These areas are ideal for bike rides or a picnic.
When planning your vacation, don’t forget about music events. This year, the beginning of July is a two-day men’s game in the Three Ponds Valley, then the Tauron Nowa Muzyka festival, that is, excellent Jazz bands, modern electronic sounds, famous representatives of club music and delectable debutants. After a short rest, another OFF music festival begins – a meeting place for artists from all over the world who will meet the expectations of fans of all music genres. The list of performing artists is impressive. There will also be music on the stage of the amphitheater in Zadole Park, where the 4th Piano-Tężnia Festival takes place.
‘Summer in the city’ campaign for children and young people
Katowice, like every year during the summer holidays, organizes a series of activities and events for children and teenagers: sports, recreation, entertainment and culture, which will take place throughout the city. – The “Summer in the city” campaign has enjoyed great popularity and recognition among both the participants and their parents for many years and is therefore continuing. The vast majority of activities are free, so a very large number of children can take advantage of the offer. Participation in the action can be a great opportunity to develop your passions, because the program is very diverse – says Marcin Krupa, mayor of Katowice. – The main thing is that young people can spend time under the supervision of professional pedagogical care – adds the president.
This year’s action is a very rich program – including sports activities, manual and intellectual competitions, art classes ending with the presentation of works, games and activities in the after-school club and many other attractions. Action participants get to visit cinemas, bowling alleys, playrooms, swimming pools, out-of-town trips, etc. Also, bike rides, communal barbecues, culinary workshops and picnics await the youngest. Most activities are free. Some classes (where tickets are valid) are subject to a fee.
– Katowice schools, sports centers, care and education centers, community centers, libraries, galleries, theater, Youth Palace, Municipal Social Assistance Center, MOSiR, sports clubs and parishes that cooperate with the city of Katowice are taking part in the action – says Ewa Lipka, deputy head of the Social Communications Department of the city of Katowice. – This is a good opportunity to spend your holidays in a healthy, interesting and sporty atmosphere – he adds.
Detailed curricula can be found on the institution’s website. During this year’s holiday, children from families in need of food assistance (ie primary and secondary school pupils) can enjoy a hot meal during school break in one of the schools on duty. The continuity of school tasks in the individual city districts is guaranteed.
During the holidays, MOSiR offers sports facilities where you can play basketball, volleyball, football and other sports. Access to leisure and leisure centers and gyms according to the price list.
