What do the most beautiful houses in the world look like? Get to know the real architectural gems – we’ve collected both minimalistic and completely extravagant designs.
The most interesting houses in the world win prizes and world recognition in many architectural competitions. Of the 10 most beautiful houses we have chosen, 3 are in Poland – these are projects appreciated by renowned judges. How do you prefer them?
The architecture of the world is undoubtedly surprising – although minimalism and glass seem to dominate, it cannot be denied that each of the projects presented is characterized by originality. Equally important, not all the most beautiful homes in the world have a huge surface area – one of the buildings in our list was designed with just one occupant in mind!
A common feature of many of the projects collected in the ranking is the focus on the nature surrounding the building. Many architects strive to ensure that the resulting building does not disturb nature, and even more so: take out, supplement and coexist with it. What do you think of this approach? What does it look like in practice? See which of the most beautiful houses in the world will impress you the most.
According to the International Competition Global Architecture & Design Awards 2021, the most beautiful house in the world is a villa, which is located … in Poland!
What distinguishes the building? As the architects responsible for the winning project explain: “Małopolska Chata Podcieniowa is a design house, but at the same time sustainable and timeless, because it is rooted in tradition. We believe in BXB studio that it is more than just a modern building”† The combination of tradition and modernity turned out to be a bull’s eye.
The house makes a great impression, partly due to the picturesque plot on which it is located. An open, glazed room, through which the housemates can admire a beautiful view, certainly adds a cozy character to the whole.
House in the shape of a cloud? The idea may seem surreal, but thanks to the unique architectural imagination, this eccentric idea has been put into practice. A cloud-like house can be seen in Australia.
Interestingly, the building looks inconspicuous from the street – it does not stand out from the neighboring houses. Therefore, it could have been built on an ordinary estate, hundreds in the vicinity.
However, as soon as we look at the building from the garden, we see that the streamlined shapes form the shape of a cloud. The elements that make up it are built on an already existing typical single-family house. It was expanded in a very unusual way – thanks to the “cloud”, the house received an additional living space and increased its area.
The whole design impresses not only with its original concept, but also with a subtle combination of wood and glass – the house refers to both tradition and modernity. Especially the dining area, which is done in a deep red, seems modernistic.
Another Polish project that has been recognized all over the world! The From the Garden House building won the Archello BEST OF 2021 competition. One of the most beautiful houses in the world was built in unusual conditions.
Usually the building is erected first and only after that the garden is planned. In this case it was different – “The expansive garden was an existing element for us, over which we had minimal influence, so we treated it as a natural element that had not been chosen. Hence the name of the project, because the garden shows this house” explain the architects.
It was without a doubt a challenge to create such a great design while preserving the garden. However, Polish architects certainly delivered – the beautiful house impresses not only with its original design, but also with practical solutions. The building draws energy from alternative sources – it is almost a self-sufficient organism.
Shaw House, located in Canada, is a real minimalist dream villa. The building is simple through and through, devoid of many additional elements, it seems almost ascetic.
However, this is only the view from the outside. There is a lot of extravagance inside – there is a glass pool on the roof of the house. The bottom of the pool is also the ceiling in the hallway of the house, so you can admire the people swimming or admire the light, which – when it passes through the water – gives a great effect.
Interestingly, this unique building was created for… one member of the household. It is impossible to hide, it would be a unique studio apartment.
The building in Vietnam impresses with its originality and at the same time is simple and not recombined. The house is kept almost entirely in white, which contrasts perfectly with the rich vegetation that has become an indispensable part of the design. How it is possible? Plants were placed between the floors so that they could grow freely.
Dense, rich vegetation not only has an aesthetic function – it also purifies the air. In addition, plants protect against sunlight and noise, which is becoming extremely important in a densely populated city like Vietnam.
Stacking Green House is an example of a house that combines urban minimalism with the wildness of nature. The effect is surprising!
The program “The most extraordinary houses in the world”, which can be seen on the Netflix platform, is becoming increasingly popular. Architect Piers Taylor travels the world with Caroline Quentin and finds the most unusual, awe-inspiring buildings.
Project 747 Wing House was featured in one of the program’s first episodes. No wonder – it attracts attention not only with its beautiful, original design. It is also distinguished by something else – the wings and tail rudders of the Boeing 747 were used to build the house. The use of aircraft parts gives the house a particularly futuristic character, but the surrounding nature and the panoramic view of Malibu break through this effect perfectly. However, in order to achieve this, not only a lot of work was required, but also a lot of permits – building a house from the parts of Boening was not easy.
Ultra-modern designs don’t appeal to you? See the most beautiful castles in Poland and go on a unique tour with history in the background.
A modern home located in the Hollywood hills makes a unique impression. As the name suggests, the house is “open” to everything around it. And literally – it’s actually hard to tell where the interior begins and where the exterior begins. The surrounding nature almost penetrates inside.
Open House is one of the most beautiful villas in the world. Why? On the roof of the building there is a large swimming pool and jacuzzi from which you can admire the beautiful landscape. The building is undoubtedly luxurious and thoroughly modern, but it is not lacking in charm – all thanks to the elements related to nature, which are present in every room of the building.
If you dream of relaxing in an equally luxurious interior – at least on weekends – get to know the most beautiful hotels in Poland and plan a unique holiday. You deserve to relax in the best conditions!
Another building was aimed at showing coexistence with nature. One of the greatest benefits of the Oak Pass House is… the nearby oak tree. The sprawling branches of the large, majestic tree are reflected in the nearby pool, creating an amazing effect.
And this time, the nature that grows on the plot has been taken into account when designing. The built house adapts completely to the topography and does not disturb the landscape in any way.
Nature fits beautifully with the glass, minimalist design. Although the building has the shape of a block and undoubtedly has a modern character, it is also extremely cosy.
Another project by architect Robert Konieczny and thus another building in Poland, which received the title of the most beautiful house in the world. In 2017, the project won the prestigious Design Awards competition and was recognized as the best building in the world at the World Architecture Festival.
“Ark” is undoubtedly an original project – the house looks like it’s hanging in the air. It is supported by hidden poles, making the building actually a bridge. Rain or melting snow that has accumulated on the slopes of the mountains can flow between the piles. The raw, modern building is surrounded by the beautiful nature of Beskid, which can be admired from the long terrace or the glass-enclosed living room.
Importantly, the amazing aesthetics of the design are combined with functionality. As the Ark’s creator emphasizes, the security of the household was ensured – a platform that acts as a “drawbridge” leads to the building, meaning uninvited guests cannot enter.
A dream villa for lovers of modern solutions. The shape, full of curves, seems eccentric, although the muted colors subtly soften the effect, full of expressiveness and dynamism.
The property is located in a place where it is difficult to find peace and quiet – that’s why part of the bedroom is… underground. Thanks to this solution, the housemates got as much intimacy and privacy as possible. So you can see that even the most beautiful houses in the world are not without functionality – the architects made sure to cater to the needs of the household.
The illuminated pool and the numerous glazing not only look great, but also add luxury. And in this case, there is no shortage of nature – rich vegetation fits perfectly with the minimalist style of the building.
