After two 200 wins, Alicja Rosolska and Erin Routliffe found a pair that played just one match en route to the third round. Doubles Anna Bondar and Greet Minnen didn’t have to go out until the first game, as Alize Cornet and Diane Parry withdrew. In turn, in the second phase, the Hungarians and the Belgian sacked Dalma Galfi and Anna Kalinska.
Monday’s stakes were the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam Roland Garros 2022 doubles tournament. After two hours and 41 minutes, Rosolska and Routliffe lost 7:6(4), 5:7, 5:7, although in the second and third set they had a breakthrough advantage.
The first breakthrough in the premiere was a Hungarian-Belgian couple. In the third game, Rosolska lost the serve, but the Polish and New Zealanders reacted with lightning speed. The break was made up for with Minnen’s pass and after 2 there was a draw on the scoreboard. Because the ladies didn’t get any more breakthrough chances, the tiebreak was decisive.

In the 13th game, the Warsaw player signaled her partner to attack. Winning forehand, she brought out pair 3-1. After switching sides, the Polish-New Zealand duo quickly developed four set symbols (6-2). Third, Routliffe forced Bondar to throw the ball into the car with a great backhand in the line.
The successful end of the opening party clearly gave our representative and her partner wings. Already in the first game of the second set they scored a breakthrough, taking advantage of the third break point with a pass from Minnen (great net kick by Routliffe). The rivals got a chance to make up for the losses. In the sixth game, the Polka and the New Zealander knocked off two breakpoints. After switching sides, Minnen and Bondar attacked with a cross from Rosolska and equalized at 4.
The battle has started again. In the ninth game, the opponents ran into problems at Minnen, but they defended the breakpoint and finished at 5:4. Routliffe then held the pass and it was a draw. The rivals did not let go. After switching sides, they attacked and worked out two set balls. With the second they scored a breakthrough and closed the second part of the match.
After two hours of fighting on the Simonne-Mathieu field, it was 1-1 in sets. Rosolska and Routliffe didn’t break after their failure in the previous part of the match. At first, the New Zealand government couldn’t break the decisive scene, and then they went on the offensive. In the third game, they used the breakpoint when passing Bondar and took the lead.
However, the Belgian and Hungarian women were not about to give up. As in the previous set, they recovered. In the eighth game, they broke Rosolska’s serve to equalize at 4. They felt more confident on the pitch and attacked again when a tiebreak was imminent. Routliffe handed them the match ball in the 12th game and after a while the winning forehand was completed by the line.
Rosolska failed to advance to the first quarterfinals of the doubles at Roland Garros (she was knocked out for the third time in Paris in the third round). She played at her best in the Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2018, when she reached the semifinals with Abigail Spears. Her partner Routliffe has yet to wait for the Grand Slam quarterfinal premiere. It is worth adding that the girl from New Zealand made her debut at the event in Paris.
In the quarterfinals of Roland Garros 2022 on the road Bondar and Minnen will be marked 10th seeded Czech Lucie Hradecka and Sania Mirza from India or marked “eight” American Cori Gauff and Jessica Pegula. The Hungarian and Belgian women will meet their next rivals on Tuesday.
