He is a man who knew the ódź volleyball community very well. He has been active in volleyball for over 20 years. He was mainly associated with the Łódź Sports Club. He was very actively involved in the reactivation of the women’s volleyball division after its collapse. It was he who led the team in the third and second division.

Under his leadership, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź was promoted to the 1st division in 2014, which was already a huge success. Later, Michał Cichy became an assistant and statistician of the first team, and in the 2015/2016 season he was able to enjoy the 1st championship and promotion to the league.

Above all modest

Even though the coaches changed, Michał Cichy was still part of the training staff of ŁKS Commercecon. History came full circle in December 2021, when Michal Mašek was removed from running the Lodz Wiewiory. It was then that Cichy took over his duties.

– Just to be clear, I’m here on behalf of. The whole staff worked for this win, we were preparing for this match together. We are in constant contact with trainer Michal Mašek and the training sessions are carried out according to the plan drawn up by him. God forbid it is not only my credit, but the work of the whole team – he then said (more HERE

– On the day of the match, I started to wonder when was the last time I led ŁKS and when we got promoted to the first division. My friend Bartek Wencław helped me refresh my memory and reminded me that it was 7 years ago – he added.

Michał Cichy is a specialist who is not enough, and at the same time very focused on his work. He lived around the clock in sports, as he combined his club duties with the work of a physical education teacher at the secondary school complex No. 1 in Łódź. It’s hard to identify a man who would better fit the title: “Silent Hero”.

In February 2022, he officially took over the duties of the first white-red-white coach. The team led by him won the bronze medal of the Tauron Liga, beating the local rival, Cave Budowlane Łódź in three matches. Earlier in the semifinals, the Ełkaesians lost to Developerres Bella Dolina Rzeszów.

– It’s a beautiful thing for me. I have been a volleyball coach for 20 years. I started working with young people very early. With ŁKS I went through all levels of the game, from the third league to the league. Now I had the chance to win the Polish Championship medal for ŁKS Commercecon Łódź as the first coach. A nice story – he told WP SportoweFakty, once again emphasizing the merits of his predecessor and noting that “he only polished it by taking care of the atmosphere and morale”.

Tired eyes

How beautiful the story of Michał Cich in the Lodz Sports Club has become. Years ago, when a few enthusiasts gathered at one of the Retkian pizzerias and made plans to revive women’s volleyball, they rather take on such a scenario in the form of a dream. And yet they became reality, always with the participation of the same group of people.

– I never expected this. Although a man always calmly counts on it, because you must have ambitions and have something to strive for. There was a bit of coincidence in it, because the situation required the president to make such a decision. However, he entrusted me with this team, for which I am very grateful and happy – emphasized Cichy.

Shortly after winning the bronze medal of the Tauron League, we spoke to the coach for the last time. His tired eyes showed that he really cared about this album. There were also private ambitions, as it was his first medal in the Polish Championship which he won as chief of training staff.

– When you become the first coach, you have a completely different responsibility. It’s different when you have to keep an eye on everything, and different when you’re behind bars and writing statistics. For me, it was by far the hardest of these drives to get — he said.

Michał Cichy died on May 26, 2022, a few days earlier he had a heart attack. He was taken to hospital, but unfortunately could not save him. He was 45 years old.
