Joanna Wróblewska: Matches like this are won, not just played

First of all I have to ask how is the health? What about your leg?

As the club informed, there was a fracture of the fibula with a displacement. I am looking for x-rays, which unfortunately confirmed this diagnosis. We also consult with another doctor about further treatment. Currently I have an orthopedic shoe and two “friends” with me. My absence from the field will probably last 4 to 6 weeks.

You got injured in the Polish Cup semi-final with TME SMS Łódź, but briefly came back on the pitch. You may have even scored a goal. How is it possible that you played with a broken bone?

It was a wave of emotions, adrenaline. After contacting Klaudia Jedlińska, my unfortunate mistake, when I tried to get in front of her, her knee hit my calf side and immediately paralyzed my leg, she was very numb. After the first consultation with a physiotherapist, we decided that it was a strong clumping of the calf and shin muscles and that I should “walk away”. I decided to go back to the field to see how I would feel. After a few minutes I knew it was very difficult. I tried to continue the game, I thought I could. I even had a target situation, I took it on my right leg, but when I was about to put my weight on it, the pain was too strong. The coach decided to make a substitution after 45 minutes. Still, we thought it was a strong blow and it never occurred to us that it was a fractured fibula. To every question about me I replied that I would definitely come back to the final. Unfortunately, the next day after the visit to the doctor, the ultrasound showed that the bone was broken. It was definitely adrenaline. Running backwards I had a big problem, and I tried to put some pressure forward as I went on the attack and wanted to disturb my rivals, even though the girls were actually playing “10” in the last minutes. You certainly can’t talk about the coach’s or the physiotherapist’s fault here, because I could have made the decision to leave the field, but I tried to help the team. I don’t blame anyone, nobody suspected that with such contact I could break the bone with dislocation.

Let’s return to purely sports issues. Your promotion was a surprise

A lot of people will probably deny my opinion, but I think that although the Łódź team created clearer situations for themselves, there were posts and cross bars, and the hero of the game was Ania Bocian, who defended in a very difficult situation, but we scored a goal that gave us promotion to the final. These games are won, not just played!

you already have a final of the Polish Cup behind him. In 2014, in AZS Wrocław, you lost 2:3 to Medyk Konin. Do you remember that meeting?

How can you not remember the only final? I played the full 90 minutes, I even had an assist in the first half. We were leading 2-0, everything was under control until Sofia Gonzalez left the field with an injury. From then on, our game crashed. First, Medic scored a contact goal and then equalized. We thought we would go to extra time, but unfortunately the team from Konin took the decisive blow and they enjoyed it. I was very young then, the chance to play in the final was a great lesson and now it will be the same for the young players of our team. And I’m sure my friends won’t sell the leather easily.

This time you have to support the team from the side. It’s hard to get into a role fan?

It’s been a week since I heard a bone was broken and I can’t really live with not playing yet. I am mentally processing it. I wanted to get on the field in this final and fight for the trophy that came down my nose in 2014. It is not an easy situation for an athlete, everyone understands it for sure. However, the girls have a lot of support from me, and I also from them, because I can count on their help. I will go with them to the final, I will be with them with all my heart.

What is the morale in the locker room of Silesiaska? The team must play without its leader.

There have been a few of these leaders since the start of the season. Be it Gosia Korda, Wiktoria Kiszkis, Paulina Pompa or Daria Nowak. We have a long list of injured. It will definitely be another game without us, but our team is mentally strong enough that one puzzle can’t break the whole puzzle. And without leaders, the girls can also fight and compete against the best in Poland.

How do you see this final match?

We can, black must. Anna Szymańska is in the final for the 15th time, in Silesia some girls are 15 years old, so when she first played for this trophy, our players were just born. It seems to me that this match will have its own rules after all. And it doesn’t matter if we play with the Polish champion, because anything is possible. Let’s take a look at Eintracht Frankfurt, who were in the middle of the league in the league and won the Europa League.

Finally, I want to ask about studies, because I know you are coming to the end. Do you already have a deadline for the defense of your dissertation?

I don’t have a deadline yet, now everything is getting complicated and layered. I have until September 16 to complete all subjects and defend myself, so I have to finish the last semester and then defense jumps on my calendar.
