The first phase of the Elite World Cup is entering its decisive phase. In the coming days we will meet eight quarter-finalists. In Helsinki, where the group A matches are played, the teams from Canada (the defender of the title) and Switzerland are unbeaten and will face each other on Saturday. In the fourth round, the Helvetians defeated the Slovaks 5: 3, and the representatives of the Maple Leaf Land won 6: 3 against the Kazakhs.

Germany took a step towards the quarter-finals. They defeated the Danes 1-0 on Friday and have nine points (their only first-round loss to the Canadians). In the relegation game, France won 2-1 after extra time against Italy and appear to be confident in their existence among the elite. The Italian national team has won one point so far and the Kazakhs have not won a point.

Group B, which plays in Tampere, saw a match at the top on Wednesday. The Swedes defeated the current Olympic champions and the host of the tournament on penalties 3: 2. The only “raid” was used by Emil Bemstroem. Thanks to this win, Trzy Korony has 11 points and Suomi 10.

Valuable three points were achieved by the teams from the Czech Republic and the USA. Our southern neighbors defeated the Latvians 5-1, thanks to a great first period. The Americans, on the other hand, scored three goals against the British, who are seriously threatened with relegation after a few years in the elite. The Norwegians, who defeated Austria 5:3, kept their chance for the quarterfinals. However, for them matches with the Czechs, Swedes and Americans, so it will be very difficult to score points.

The group stage of the Elite World Cup lasts until May 24. The top four teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals. However, the two worst teams of the entire tournament are relegated to Division 1A.
